196 - Art & Jacob Yerex

choosing original art can be an intimidating venture and that’s why i wanted to devote a blog to picking art. first and foremost, when choosing a piece of art we will tell you, you just have to love it! choosing and owning a piece of art should make you feel good! the piece you choose should be something that makes you smile when you walk past it every day. i know a lot of designers who purchase art pieces for their clients as a "surprise" and let me tell you, just because the designer likes it doesn't mean their clients will. always always go over art selections with your clients as they will be the main audience.

as most galleries will allow you to see the art work in your home before making a commitment to purchase, utilize the in-home consultations to assist in finding multiple pieces for your home or office. this way you get a real good idea as to what that fantastic piece of art will look like in the space you had wanted it for.

as framing and lighting are 2 major components to making art stand out on the wall or on display, you should really consider these options before purchasing and deciding where you're going to place it.

here are a couple of my favorite pieces from Jacob Yerex who is a toronto based artist. his recent paintings are focused on the narrative of urban life. these paintings are an investigation of how we see the city. jacob's paintings play with the threshold between narrative illustration and abstraction.

That's really funny, i was looking at those paintings this past summer in a gallery on Queen St. E. I recognized them right away. I liked them a lot too.
