i don't know about you but this year alone, 6 of my girlfriends who just got married either last year or this year are already with child. is it just me or are there a lot of baby mamas this year!
so i thought i'd do a little tribute to the new moms out there and do a post on baby / kid rooms. as a designer, it doesn't matter to me how old you are, everyone deserves a space that is practical, functional and visually pleasing to be in. even children understand design and they respond to it.
for youngsters, i believe in a good balance of color, practical and safe furnishings, art and inspiring words and anything that can calm, motivate, influence and play a positive role in a childs upbringing. i think children should be inspired daily and what better way then to let the space they spend the most time in to do help along the way. i'm also big on rooms that grow with the kids. a place where kids and be themselves and express themselves.

Children are such a blessing in our lives. I have 2 grandsons now and I love them to pieces. These are some beautiful and fun and fresh rooms you have posted.

I'm not sure I'll always feel this way, but I think the bay's room ought to look like the parents want it to look. let's be fair, little Suzy isn't going to care whether she has a Fisher-Price or a Mies van der Rohe piece in the room... so I hope that when my time comes I'll be able to decorate the room in step with the rest of my home.

I love to incorporate my client--the expecting mother--in a project for the room. It makes her feel that although I designed the room, she had a unique involvement in creating the nest! Quite often I have her (or him, can't forget the Dads!) do cut outs of fish or birds or butterflies, apply them to colorful matting and have them framed and hung on the wall !
